Abstract

Teachers play a central role in determining the quality of education. Their professional competence is not only reflected in mastery of subject matter but also in the ability to apply effective teaching skills. This paper aims to analyze the role of basic teaching skills in developing teachers’ professional competence. The discussion focuses on seven fundamental teaching skills: opening and closing lessons, giving reinforcement, asking questions, explaining, providing variation, guiding small group discussions, and managing the classroom. Mastery of these skills supports teachers in creating meaningful, interactive, and student-centered learning environments. Furthermore, the integration of basic teaching skills strengthens teachers’ pedagogical and professional competence, enabling them to perform their educational duties effectively and efficiently. Thus, basic teaching skills serve as the foundation for shaping professional, competent, and adaptive educators capable of facing educational challenges in the modern era.
